I am a research fellow at Harvard University, Berkman Klein Centre for Internet and Society, investigating the impact of Artificial Intelligence on Human Behaviour with a focus on children’s learning and development. My research contributes to responsible designs of AI systems and social robots and to policy design for the development of human-centred AI systems that align with Human Rights.
As a fellow at Harvard, I explore how AI can transform education, learning and play focusing on global citizenship education for students in K-12 from a research, design and policy perspective while considering children’s rights.
My daily work includes the design and conduction of field experimental studies and workshops in Europe, the United States, Asia, and Africa and I create spaces for multi-stakeholder collaborations. I have established collaborations with key international organizations, such as the United Nations, UNICEF, UNICRI, and ITU, and leading tech companies such as the HONDA Research Institute in Japan.
Previously, I worked at the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, as a Scientific Officer for Science for Policy for AI and human rights with the main goal to provide scientific evidence for policymaking in the field of AI,
I have co-authored more than 80 scientific papers, and more than 20 Science for Policy reports while I am regularly invited to give talks about my work. I serve as an associate editor in multiple academic journals, including the International Journal on Child-Computer Interaction, as a Chair in advisory boards for multiple organizations and companies and vice chair at the IEEE Society on Computational Intelligence, Cognitive and Developmental Systems, TF HRI.
